Sights on Ærø: 6 beautiful places you must not miss!

When we design new posters from a city or place, it always starts with a visit. And Ærø was no exception. Fortunately, there are crazy many beautiful sights on the 30x8 km. small island that deserves a place on a poster. But it was Ærø's bath houses that won this first round.

#1 Everything is water next to Ærø's small bathing houses

This small house must be one of the most photographed of the small bathhouses on Ærø.

It is located at Eriks Hale in Marstal. But the more than 100-year-old bathhouses can be found in two places on Ærø:

On Eriks Hale and on Vesterstrand near Ærøskøbing.

We fell head over heels in love with the small houses that lie and sunbathe on the beach like pearls on a string.

Imagine having your own bath house. Okay.

But it must remain a dream, because you have to inherit a bath house – or you can of course also marry into it – because you have to be more than ordinary lucky if such a nugget of gold is put up for sale. It almost never happens.

But now the Bathhouses at least have an ÆRØ poster that you can hang up in the living room. Like a plaster on the wound.

#2 The sailing trip is among the 6 most beautiful sights on Ærø

It's really nice that it takes a whole hour to sail to Ærø.

And it is hard to avoid. The ferry. That is, unless you have your own private airplane. Because Ærø is, after all, an island that you have to sail to. And luckily it takes a whole hour.

Because first you squeeze in between Funen and Tåsinge and then you can greet a handful of other large and small islands in the South Funen archipelago, such as Skarø, Drejø and Hjortø.

It is the perfect sailing trip to mentally prepare for island life.

#3 Binding works in Ærøskøbing are among the must-see attractions on Ærø

Ærøskøbing oozes with everything you can dream of in terms of history and nostalgia. And the city is also among the best-preserved market towns in Denmark.

And maybe that's why the entrances are to die for - no less!

As they stand there neatly carved in beautiful colours.

And if, as a new owner, you dare to want to paint your front door in a different colour, you must apply for permission from either the State or the local authority on Ærø. Colors are not something to joke about in Ærøskøbing, where many of the houses are either listed or worth preserving.

There are over 100 beautiful doors to look at in Ærøskøbing.

#4 Morning walk in Morgensol in Ærøskøbing

You have to pass both the harbor and the meadow to get down to the bathhouses.

We were lucky that the water was completely still that morning. It was like being on an adventure when the small bathhouses appeared on the horizon like pearls on a string.

#5 Skjoldnæs Lighthouse's narrow door

It's really narrow that door. We recommend fasting the day before a visit.

Unless you are eel-slender by nature.

But if you overcome claustrophobia and get your body through the small door and up the narrow stairs, a magnificent view of the island awaits. And suddenly it becomes crystal clear why "everything is water next to Ærø".

If you look up at the top of the lighthouse, you are presented with the play of the sun in the lighthouse's mirrors, which wink at you just below Skjolnæs' copper hat.

Oh...

#6 Stensmutteri at Voderup Klint

The cliff rises almost all the way to the sky, or... at least 28 meters above the sea.

And it is also a slat seen from Danish eyes!

The cliff is protected because it is simply beautiful. Seen from a distance, it looks like a large staircase (such a giant one) with four steps.

And you can also be lucky to find salamanders in the waterholes northwest of the cliff.

On the beach in front of the cliff, there are lots of stones - so if you are a tough stone nut, then it's just a matter of getting started.
