How to hang a picture

Do you love getting new things on the walls, but are not the handy type? And are you in doubt about how to hang your new poster?
Don't worry - hanging pictures is easier than you think!

Here is a step by step guide that you can use when you need to hang your pictures.

1. Find out where your new picture should hang. Should it hang over the sofa or over the sideboard in the hallway? Maybe it should hang in the bedroom or be part of your picture wall?

2. Once you have found out where the picture should hang, you need to find out what kind of wall it is. You can do that by tapping on it and feeling and listening. If the wall is very hard and sounds "heavy", it is a wall that you need to drill into. This can e.g. be a concrete wall or a brick wall.

If the wall sounds more hollow and is a little more "soft", you can screw it in without drilling a hole first. It can, for example, be a plaster wall.

3. Now it's time to figure out where the nail or screw should be. You can do this by holding the image up exactly where you want it to be. Put a small line with a pencil over the top of the image and on each side. When you take the picture down, you can see a mini-outline of the top of the picture.
The screw or nail must sit in the middle of the width of the image. Is your picture e.g. 52 cm. wide, the screw or nail must sit 26 cm. from the side. You should also look at the back of your photo. Where is the suspension in the picture?
Measure from the top of the picture down to the hanger. If, for example, is 7 cm. down to the suspension, you must measure 7 cm. down from your "top" line on the wall.
Place a small cross that matches the center of the image and the distance from the top.

4. When you have put a cross where the screw or nail should be, grab the tool.

For drywall or similar: You need a screwdriver and screws or a hammer and nails. Insert the nail or screw into your small cross on the wall. It is best to use a screw if the image is heavy.

For a concrete wall or similar: You need a drill, a drill, a raw plug and a vise. Start by drilling a hole in the wall of your little cross. The hole must be the same size as the rawplug you have. Once you have drilled a hole, insert your rawplug. Then you can screw in your screw.

Alternatives - hang pictures without nails: If you want to hang your pictures without holes in the wall, you can use adhesive nails. It can be bought at various hardware stores.
